Winter!: Prepare for holiday gaming!
Red Alert 2 was one of the first strategy games that I was able to get into, and I'm glad that I have this to look back on and smile at.
It's Command & Conquer. It's real-time strategy at its best and simplest. You don't have to gather different kinds of resources, you don't have to research tech trees other than building new buildings, and you don't have to know any strategies simpler than ""build a butt-load of tanks and send them across the map.""
For its time, the graphics were as good as 2D could get. The sound is awesome, and the inter-mission cut-scenes are a cheesy joy to watch.
With the more recent re-release of this title in the Command & Conquer first decade collection, you can once again play online with friends or people you don't know. I really wish that this whole franchise had a much bigger following, since it's much more colorful than any 4x game you care to name.
